Nourishment That Heals: A Clinician’s Plate and Perspective
What’s on my plate today is more than just a meal — it’s a reflection of what I see making a difference in the lives (and joints!) of my patients every day.
Today’s lunch
🐟 Baked grouper topped with mango chutney
🥒 Roasted yellow squash and zucchini
🌿 Roasted fresh asparagus
This colorful, low-carb, anti-inflammatory meal is a true example of a keto-adapted lifestyle — rich in nutrients, healthy fats, lean protein, and fiber… while intentionally avoiding inflammatory triggers like refined carbohydrates and sugars.
🧠 The Science Behind the Plate
When we remove excessive carbohydrates — especially processed ones — from our diets, the body shifts into a fat-burning, anti-inflammatory state. This process can reduce systemic inflammation, which is a known contributor to:
Chronic joint pain
Autoimmune flare-ups
Brain fog and fatigue
Insulin resistance
What we eat truly speaks to our cells. Meals like this one don’t spike blood sugar. They don’t trigger the inflammatory cascade that refined carbs tend to provoke. Instead, they nourish the body in a way that helps it heal.
✨ My Personal Journey
As someone living with lupus, I’ve experienced firsthand the powerful connection between nutrition and inflammation.
Since adopting a cleaner, low-carb/keto-based approach to eating, my lupus flares have significantly decreased in both frequency and intensity. I’m no longer riding the rollercoaster of inflammation and fatigue. My joints feel freer. My energy is steadier. My quality of life is better.
I didn’t expect food to be a form of therapy — but it is.
It’s been one of the most impactful changes I’ve made in managing my health long-term.
🦴 From My Clinic to Your Kitchen
As a physical therapist, I’ve worked with hundreds of patients suffering from chronic joint pain, stiffness, and swelling. While manual therapy, strengthening, and neuromuscular retraining are essential — what I’ve seen over the years is this:
👉 The patients who embrace clean, low-carb eating often experience faster and more sustainable relief from joint pain.
They move better. They feel lighter. Their recovery accelerates.
Food alone doesn’t fix everything — but it absolutely fuels the healing.
🍽️ Final Thought
This plate isn’t just about flavor.
It’s a quiet rebellion against inflammation.
It’s medicine disguised as dinner.
And yes… it was delicious.
